History

Our intent is to help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world to build a sense of pride in their country and a respect for others. Through the teaching of History, pupils will develop an understanding of the process & complexity of change and the diversity of societies and beliefs, whilst celebrating these differences.

As a result of our History curriculum, pupils will:

  • ask insightful questions,
  • become critical thinkers,
  • weigh evidence and debate respectfully,
  • develop a well-informed perspective and judgement on the world around them.
  • Pupils will have the opportunity to engage in the world around them through trips and workshops, enriching their History knowledge and providing first-hand historical experiences.
  • History is promoted through the celebration of anniversaries, festivals, and events throughout the year, which are linked with other areas of the curriculum.
  • High quality history lessons will inspire pupils to want to know more about the past and to think and act as historians, understanding their role in time.
  • Learning about British and global History will develop pupils' personal development, enabling them to explore different viewpoints and developing a wider sense of their local and wider community.
